Philmont 2009 - Day 5 on the trail

6/30/2009 tmccann Unknown

Crew 626 - E1 gets another hearty meal, that they don't have to cook.  They'll have a ChuckWagon breakfast before they leave Ponil Camp.  Today, they're headed for Pueblano Camp (one of my favorites).  They'll have to decide which route to hike first, either way it will be the longest hike so far.  My guess is that they'll choose to go via South Ponil Creek, which is about a 7 mile hike.  They'll also gain elevation along the way, ending up at 8,350 ft. once they reach Pueblano Camp. Along the way, they'll stop by the Continental Tie and Lumber Company.  They'll compete in traditional logging events, such as spar tree "pole" climbing, axe use, cross-cut sawing, etc...  I sure hope they have the first aid kit handy!
